Filip Petrusev, the new basketball player of the Greek Olympiacos, spoke for the first time as a player of this team. He is pleased with his arrival in Athens.
Filip Petrusev has officially concluded his episode in the highest quality league in the world – the NBA – and has returned to the Old Continent.
The Serbian representative has signed a three-year contract with the Greek giant from Piraeus, and he will compete for Olympiacos. He terminated his contract with the Sacramento Kings a few days ago, deciding to return to Europe after an unsuccessful stint in the NBA.
“I went through some things in the NBA that I didn’t expect, and it wasn’t my fault, but I am a young player and I need to play. I think I can help the team. There will be time to come back. I went there, gained some experience, saw how it is, and I had to go.
Philadelphia had the rights to my services, but if in a few years I decide to return to the NBA, I can go to any team. There is still time. I just want to play,” Petrusev said upon landing in Greece, as reported by “Sport24.gr.“
He briefly played in Sacramento alongside Sasha Vezenkov, who moved from Olympiacos to the NBA.
“Vezenkov told me all the best. We spent a lot of time together in Sacramento. We talked often, and he only said the best things and that I should choose Olympiacos because I had other offers.
I haven’t spoken with Milutinov, we talked this summer. Everything happened quickly. I talked to Hassan Martin, and he also spoke highly of it.“
Last season, he played the best season of his career wearing the Crvena Zvezda jersey. He mostly played as a power forward. When asked about his role with Olympiacos, where Nikola Milutinov and Moustapha Fall occupy the center positions, Petrusev stated:
“I can play equally well as a center. I know Nikola from the national team, and it’s clear that Olympiacos has a large number of good players, so it will be fun. Everything happened quickly. I was released two days ago. I just arrived, and I think I will have time to adjust and talk to everyone, so we’ll see.”
He is glad to wear the red and white jersey again.
“I like the colors. I was with Crvena Zvezda last year, probably played the best season of my career, and I really liked the atmosphere and the fans. They were full of support, and I’m grateful to them. I also know that the fans of Crvena Zvezda and Olympiacos are like brothers, so I’m excited to remain part of that family,” concluded Filip Petrusev.
