Crvena Zvezda fans were attacked by hooligans in Bologna when they arrived in the Italian city for a EuroLeague game between the Serbian team and Virtus.
According to Sport Klub, the victims were younger supporters of the club from Mali Kalemegdan, and there were reportedly four of them. They sustained minor injuries and were promptly taken to the nearest hospital. Sport Klub unofficially reports that the attackers were actually AS Roma fans.
All of this occurred following a notice from the Bologna police, stating that Crvena Zvezda would not be able to have the support of their fans at the PalaDozza during the match against Virtus, due to security concerns.
Let’s recall that Dusko Ivanovic’s team failed to mount a major comeback against Virtus, who triumphed with an 85-79 victory.
The team from Bologna held a 14-point lead during the game, followed by a thrilling finish. After Shabazz Napier’s basket, Crvena Zvezda came within just three points and had a chance to defend. However, they didn’t manage to do so. The same player fouled Alessandro Pajola, who made both free throws. Later, Rokas Giedraitis committed an ill-advised foul, effectively extinguishing any chances for the red and white team to secure the win.
In the next round, Crvena Zvezda opponent will be Partizan.
