Freddie Gillespie, basketball player for Crvena Zvezda, spoke after the game against Split in the the 13th round of the ABA League.
Gillespie didn’t score in his successful debut, as the red-and-whites outplayed their opponent, but offensive production was never his primary role.
“The most important thing is that we won. It was exciting to play with my new teammates. I was a bit nervous, but overall, I’m satisfied with how everything turned out. I love Belgrade. When I played for Bayern, I always looked forward to playing here. Belgrade is one of my top three favorite cities in Europe,” Gillespie honestly expressed.
The center for the Belgrade team then touched upon the ambitions for the new season and the collaboration with Yago dos Santos.
“I expect wins. Some players have left, some are coming. I’m trying to find my rhythm and improve every day. The focus is on winning. I haven’t talked to the players, but with the coach and the management, who explained to me what they expect from me and how I can help the team. Crvena Zvezda has a great team from the first to the last player. I played against Yago in the German league, and he was excellent. I think he will find his rhythm in the EuroLeague, and he will be a great player. There’s good chemistry within the team,” emphasized Gillespie.
