Usman Garuba was one of the problems that troubled head coach Sergio Scariolo, but good news arrived.
Garuba returned in the match against Canada, which Spain lost at home, in Granada. The new Oklahoma City Thunder player points out that he is completely healthy:
“My ankle is fine. Thanks to the physios and the physical trainers. We have strengthened the ankle, and I am happy to be back.“
Despite his team being defeated, Garuba said that this team has a huge desire to repeat the success of the 2019 FIBA World Cup:
“We’re a competitive group, always striving for victory. While we’ll take away important lessons from this game, we shift our focus to the next challenge. We’ll have another shot against Canada in the World Cup if things go as planned. We need to be prepared to enhance our performance and make necessary adjustments.” – said Garuba, and then praised the Canadian national team:
“It’s no secret that Canada presents one of the most physically demanding challenges. To secure victory, we need to meet or exceed their level in terms of physicality. We aim to come out on top in the next encounter.“
Spain will play Iran, Brazil and Ivory Coast in Group G. The World Cup is scheduled from August 25 to September 10.
