In the first match of the group stage, Georgia defeated the debutants in the FIBA World Cup Cape Verde with the score of 85:60.
The match was characterized by a bad start for Georgia. They shot only 1/10 at the beginning of the match, but with the entry of Goga Bitadze and Giorgi Tsintzadze, they gained stability and made a 10:0 run in the first quarter. In the continuation, Ilias Zouros’ team started violently and scored 28 points in the second quarter, while Walter Tavares was completely powerless.
They drove the center of Real Madrid crazy with doubles, and very often they went to the penalty line in the third quarter. In the end, Sanadze hit a triple with the sound of the siren for the maximum plus 33. The African representatives started the last part well with a few easy points and a series of 8:0.
In the winning team the best player was Tornike Shengelia with 16 points and Bitadze with 15 points stood out, while the best individual for Cape Verde was Kenneti Mendes with 11 points.
In the next match, Georgia will play with the national team of Slovenia, while Cape Verde will look for luck against Venezuela in the next round.
