Georgios Bartzokas, coach of Olympiacos, spoke about the recent war of statements between the two biggest Greek teams, as well as the attack against him by Dimitris Giannakopoulos.
Emotions have not subsided after the conclusion of the biggest match in Greece, where Panathinaikos triumphed over Olympiacos 77-71. The Greek coach entered into a heated discussion with the owner of “The Greens,” and after the victory against Promitheas, he spoke about it in detail for the first time.
“My job is not to argue with the president. I am a coach who competes with another coach. I would like to express my condolences to Ergin Ataman, whose father passed away. If the president of our rival, Panathinaikos, has been attacking me for months, it is not my job to address that. I don’t have social media, I don’t have the media platform he does. I can give an interview, but I don’t want to. I can only do it for the sake of my team, but we must stay focused on our goal,” Georgios Bartzokas stated.
He then commented on the war of statements between the two Greek giants, adding that another Olympiacos expert found himself in the same situation.
“The statement from my team covers me completely. I remember that Panagiotis Giannakis found himself in a similar position. Toxic games are played when two teams are strong in Greek basketball. Now, when they attack me personally, perhaps I should take it as an honor because it seems they want me to leave Olympiacos! That means I am doing something right.”
