Giannis Antetokounmpo missed the NBA playoff quarterfinal series, and his Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated by the Indiana Pacers.
For the second consecutive season, the Milwaukee Bucks have been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Last season, it was the Miami Heat, and this time the Indiana Pacers, who prevailed 4-2. It was difficult to expect them to advance without the help of Giannis Antetokounmpo, who got injured in early April against the Boston Celtics.
“I felt pain below the calf. I didn’t know exactly what it was, it felt like someone tripped me, but then I turned around and saw that no one was behind me. It was probably the first time in my career that I got injured without anyone around me.
I couldn’t take a step, that’s when I knew something was wrong. I had to wear a medical boot because I couldn’t walk due to the pain,” explained Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Greek player revealed that he still has problems when running and that he will need a few more weeks to fully recover.
“I couldn’t do much over the past weeks. I couldn’t jump, I could only shoot in place. I did everything to come back, it hurt me to watch my teammates and not be able to help them. I simply couldn’t. I did all the tests, pushed myself to the limit, but it wasn’t good for me and my health to go out on the court and play.”
The injury status is also closely monitored in Greece, which will host an Olympic qualifying tournament in July.
“I can run at 30-40 percent capacity. I’m not yet able to run at full capacity. It will take a few weeks before I return to normal.”
Greece is in a group with Egypt and the Dominican Republic. In the other group are Slovenia, Croatia, and New Zealand.
