Greece defeated the Dominican Republic by 109:82 in the second round of the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Paris.
In front of their fans in Athens, Greece played a masterful first quarter in which they quickly gained a 10-point lead. This is not surprising, considering Giannis Antetokounmpo was very active in the game.
The second quarter did not see a different scenario. Greece was even more powerful offensively, scoring 31 points in that part of the game and going into the halftime break with a comfortable 15-point lead, which guaranteed a more relaxed continuation of the game.
It was clear that Greece wouldn’t push too hard in the remainder of the game. They played in a relaxed rhythm, and by the end of the third quarter, the score was 80:65.
Giannis Antetokounmpo dominated with 32 points, shooting an impressive 11/11 from the field. He was followed by Thomas Walkup with 17 points and Nick Calathes with 12 points and 11 assists.
In the defeated team, Chris Duarte stood out with 26 points. Jean Montero also played well with 12 points, and Angel Nunez added 10 points.
Greece is currently 1-0, the Dominican Republic is 1-1, and Egypt is 0-1. The game between Greece and Egypt will be played tomorrow at 20:00.
