Germany’s coach Gordon Herbert spoke after the semifinal game and the victory against the USA at the FIBA World Cup.
Herbert achieved a significant success with his team, as they played an outstanding game to defeat the USA and set up a title showdown with Serbia.
“A special group. The way we play together, how we stick together when things aren’t going well… We have one more left. We’ll enjoy it for a bit and prepare for Sunday,” Herbert said.
Herbert on the gold and Serbia
“It’s a big triumph, but we’re not where we want to be just yet. This group of players wants gold. When we wake up tomorrow morning, it will already be all over, and we’ll move on and prepare for the final. Serbia beat Canada today. I have no idea what to think; I haven’t watched Serbia play. Pesic is a friend, a coach. One of the greatest of all time in Europe.”
Herbert also touched upon Andreas Obst, who scored 24 points and was the hero of the game.
“Obst is one of the best shooters in FIBA. Three-point shooting is not the only thing he does; he also creates space for other players. He has improved since the EuroBasket. He’s more than just a shooter; he has become a good defender.”
There was also talk about defense.
“We were good on offense, not so much on defense. We allowed a lot of easy points. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. We played one possession better in the second half than in the first. Congratulations to the players,” Gordon Herbert said.
