Igor Rakocevic, former Serbian national team player and ex-Crvena zvezda basketball player, has expressed his opinion regarding the situation with Borisa Simanic.
Borisa Simanic suffered an injury during a FIBA World Cup game against South Sudan. After taking a hit from Noni Omot, the condition of the Serbian national team player deteriorated, leading to surgery. During the procedure, one of his kidneys was removed.
Igor Rakocevic conveyed a message of support to the Serbian representative through his Twitter account.
“Borisa Simanic had one of his kidneys removed at the World Cup due to postoperative complications. For all those who don’t appreciate (or even insult) when a professional athlete dedicates their entire summer to training, doesn’t spend time with their family, risks their health, risks losing their contract, and the source of income for their entire family.
And this can happen. The Serbian Basketball Federation and the state should react and do everything they can to help Borisa and ease the misfortune that has befallen him. Hang in there, Borisa,” Rakocevic conveyed.
Earlier in the day, former basketball players also spoke up and expressed their support for Simanic.
“Borisa Simanic literally gave a kidney for Serbia. I hope that the country and the federation will forever appreciate it. Borisa is in his prime basketball years, and for this to happen! I am very saddened and sorry; I know the guy and how good of a person he is. Stay strong, Borisa, I’m with you,” Vladimir Stimac conveyed.
Former national team player Dejan Musli also sent a message of support.
“For this country, many once gave their lives. And that passed and was forgotten. For this country, many gave their free time. And that passed and was forgotten.
For this country, many gave their knees and backs, ligaments, and cartilage. And that passed and was forgotten. We shouldn’t forget what happened to the good Borisa! Stay strong, buddy,” Musli concluded.
