Isaiah Canaan will continue his career at Crvena zvezda, and he bid an emotional farewell to the Olympiacos through social media.
The experienced American guard is the second addition to the red and whites this summer, following Uros Plavsic who was first to join the club from Mali Kalemegdan. Canaan has signed a two-year contract with Crvena zvezda.
“Dear Olympiacos,
These past two seasons have been incredible! Two consecutive EuroLeague Final Fours, winning trophies in Greece in my first year and nearly all but one in the second! I didn’t achieve the ultimate goal I wanted with this great organization, but I definitely had opportunities to do so, and that’s all I could ask for! I’ve built many relationships and friendships that I will never forget! To my brothers, you know what it’s about and you’ve always been focused from the very beginning.
We fought, we battled, and we persevered through times when nobody believed but us! This bond is forever. Let’s keep going. To Piraeus and Gate 7, I truly appreciate the love from the bottom of my heart. At the beginning, I knew I had to win some of you over, but if you know anything about me, challenges drive me and I never shy away from them. Now you know me, my heart, and you know I gave it my all (when allowed (laughs)). You will always have a special place in my heart! With all my love and respect, this isn’t goodbye, but see you later” – wrote Isaiah Canaan.
The American guard studied at Murray State before being selected as the 34th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. He was drafted by the Houston Rockets but didn’t receive significant playing time, subsequently moving through several teams in the top basketball league in the world.
He played 235 games there with averages of 8.1 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists per game, shooting 35% from three-point range, which is his most effective weapon. In the previous season in the EuroLeague, he averaged 11.1 points in 41 games played, shooting an impressive 42.5% from beyond the arc.
