The special EuroLeague invitation fee will increase from the previous 500,000 euros to 750,000 euros starting this summer, as reported by Mozzart Sport.
As a reminder, Paulius Motiejunas, the head of the elite European competition, stated that from this season onwards, the special invitation must be paid for, regardless of whether the club is the champion of its country/region or not.
“There are no longer any champions. There is no longer an option where you win and enter the Euroleague. That simply isn’t the case anymore. Position in domestic leagues is no longer important. Everyone has a chance, and we are in talks with all. The clubs will decide. My task is to present the criteria so that the clubs can understand them.”
Competing for a place in the EuroLeague for the next season are: Crvena Zvezda, Partizan, Alba Berlin, Valencia, and Virtus. Given that only four special invitations can be distributed, one of the mentioned teams will have to be excluded from the competition.
