James Nunnally addressed the incident with Stefan Lazarevic on social media, explaining his side of the story.
The American claims he did not initiate any trouble and was merely defending himself. He also expressed his hope that the Crvena Zvezda player is doing well.
“I am who I am, not what others think I am. Nor am I what others want me to be. I am myself. Fabrications and manipulations were unnecessary in this situation because there is clear video evidence revealing that I had to protect myself from an aggressive individual.
After attempting to calm the situation that I felt was escalating, with a hand around my neck and a fist coming towards me, I had no choice but to separate myself from him. There is no animosity towards him, I hope he is okay.”
“Any narrative about me that does not include that I am a good human being cannot be true nor will it be accepted. I will never be perfect, nor do I strive to be, I just learn from my mistakes, holding myself accountable to become better from past errors.
I am not a racist, despite what some people have called me, labeling me a racist while calling me a black monkey and sending me bananas (although I like them in smoothies, they’re not my favorite choice), and bombarding me with countless racist slurs and threats. None of this will affect my opinion of the many great Serbian people with whom I have built relationships during my time here,” emphasized James Nunnally.
