Jose Juan Barea had an extremely successful playing career, and now he has decided to try his hand as a coach.
After the end of their professional career, many players stay in basketball, mostly as coaches. However, few manage to find their way in a new role. One of those who will try to do that is Barea.
The 39-year-old Puerto Rican will have his first engagement in his homeland. Namely, as reported by Shams Carania, he agreed to cooperate with the Guaynabo Mets team, which competes in the first tier of the Puerto Rican League.
Barea spent 11 of his 14 NBA seasons in Dallas. He helped the Mavericks win the NBA championship in 2011. In his career, he recorded 843 appearances in the strongest world league. Also, in addition to Dallas, he wore the jersey of the Minnesota Timberwolves. The point guard averaged 8.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists during his NBA career.
Barea has already tried himself in a coaching position. Mavericks hired him as a player development coach in 2021.
