Joan Penarroya is set to sign a two-year contract with Barcelona, as reported by Spanish media, with Encestando being the first to break the news.
The board of directors of the Catalan club recently decided not to continue working with Roger Grimau, and now Joan Penarroya will take his place.
Joan Penarroya has built his coaching career in Spain, starting with a four-year tenure at CB Olesa and Navas, followed by stints at Andorra, Manresa, San Pablo Burgos, Valencia, and Baskonia.
He achieved his greatest success with Burgos, winning back-to-back FIBA Champions League titles in 2020 and 2021.
Juan Carlos Navarro reportedly wanted Xavi Pascual to be the new coach of Barcelona, but the Catalan team simply couldn’t meet the financial demands of the Zenit coach (who reportedly earns over 2,000,000 euros there). The second option was Jaka Lakovic, but the management agreed he wasn’t the best solution.
