Joan Penarroya has spoken out on Radio Baskonia regarding the potential dismissal from his position as the coach of the Vitoria-based team.
The Spanish expert emphasizes that he remains calm despite everything, and he is not accustomed to working in the current circumstances where there is much talk of his possible removal.
After the defeat to Panathinaikos in the fifth round of the EuroLeague, the discussion about Dusko Ivanovic potentially taking over as the head coach of the Vitoria club has resurfaced.
“I will continue to do my job as long as I have it. I’m not used to all of this, but I remain calm. This week has been tough for me, as well as for the whole team. The team has remained united, and for that, I’m proud of them. I also have to say that I’m proud of my coaching staff, the assistants, physiotherapists, and even the media,” said Joan Penarroya, and he added:
“Although we had issues before the start of the game, we fought well against an exceptional team. We lacked energy during the last 10 minutes of the match, and it was clear that we were tired.”
Baskonia currently holds just one victory and four losses in the EuroLeague, positioning them as the 16th best team on the table.
In the Endesa League, the Vitoria-based team has secured two wins and suffered four losses. After six rounds of play, they are currently in sixth place.
In the next EuroLeague round, Baskonia will host Partizan, and a potential loss in front of their home fans would essentially mark the end of the collaboration between the club and Penarroya.
