Joel Embiid, the Philadelphia 76ers’ basketball star and the current MVP of the world’s premier basketball league, has been given a deadline to make a decision regarding his participation in the French national team.
The outstanding center has not yet decided which national team he will represent. There are three options: the United States, Cameroon, and France.
The French Basketball Federation has set a deadline for him to declare his intentions by October 10th.

“It will happen very quickly. We hope so, and I think he knows that. Maybe we will have an answer by October 10th. We set this deadline. We have never officially announced anything about Joel Embiid. We repeat that we want him to come. He is not with us yet. We are working on it; we have a strong desire. He knows that. We had the opportunity to talk to him, and we are waiting for his decision. The American team is also very interested. Cameroon is playing qualifiers. It’s a delicate situation for him,” said Jean-Pierre Siutat to “RTL.”
The discussion also revolved around the national team’s head coach, Vincent Collet, and his future in that position. Many questions naturally arose after the FIBA World Cup did not go as planned for the French:
“Vincent and the entire coaching staff are doing a fantastic job, especially since 2019, trying to incorporate some new players into the system. We will make the decision together, but most likely, he will lead the team at the 2024 Olympics.”
