Joel Embiid is still recovering from a knee injury that has been nagging him since January, but he want to be ready for the Olympic Games.
The Cameroonian born player had a torn meniscus and he underwent a surgery to fix the problem, but the problem was not fixed and he had problems during the playoffs. Now he has given a promising update on his condition.
“I’m doing great. Just getting ready for the Olympics. It’s going to be big for me because I’ve been dreaming about it since I was a kid. I’m excited about it,” said Joel Embiid on ABC’s Countdown.
He was eligible to represent France and Cameroon, but he chose the USA because of his son who is born there. After that he faced some backlash from the France Basketball Federation.
The 7-time All-Star was averaging 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.8 blocks in 34 games prior to the injury. His final averages were 34.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.7 blocks. In the 76ers’ first-round playoff series loss against the New York Knicks, Embiid averaged 33.0 points, 10.8 boards, 5.7 assists and 1.5 blocks over the six games.
