Jrue Holiday will be hounding Kyrie Irving on the defensive end in the NBA Finals, and he has a simple plan on how to stop him.
The Celtics guard is known for his perimeter defense. However, he said that to stop Irving there would need to be some kind of divine intervention.
“How would you stop Kyrie Irving?”
“Pray.”
At face value, Jrue Holiday is more of a physically dominant type of guard, but during 20 encounter between the pair Irving is averaging 24.2 points, 4.9 assists, and 4.7 rebounds. While with the Cleveland Cavaliers Irving dropped 49 points over Holiday.
However, even though the Mavericks’ guard stats are great against Holiday, he has a bad record against him. He is 6-14 all-time in the various matchups they’ve had over the last 13 seasons. The Celtics guard has been solid in this matchup as well, averaging 17.7 points, 6.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds.
The NBA Finals start tomorrow. The Boston Celtics will host the Dallas Mavericks in Games 1 and 2 in the TD Garden. Irving is returning to Boston where he had some troubles over the past few years.
