Justin Cobbs, the new player for Cedevita Olimpija, spoke as a representative of the Slovenian team to the attending reporters ahead of the ABA League Super Cup.
Buducnost is hosting the fourth edition of the Super Cup in this regional competition. In the first three editions, it was won by different teams each time. The debut ABA Super Cup was won by Cedevita Olimpija’s basketball players, the second time the trophy was lifted by Crvena zvezda’s squad, while the third time, Partizan emerged as the victors.
Following a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the decision was made not to play the Super Cup. It’s worth noting that this time, the team from Mali Kalemegdan won’t be present. The reasons for Crvena zvezda’s absence were explained by the ABA League’s sports director, Milija Vojinovic.
“I expect a team battle as in every game. It’s the first tournament for all of us, new competition, a new coach, players, a new system. I hope to contribute on both ends of the floor. I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of friends at the ABA League Super Cup; it’s a great feeling to be back in Moraca. I’m excited and ready for new challenges in the EuroCup and in the ABA League.
I spent a year in Japan, and now I’m back here. I’m glad to be back, and I feel completely comfortable and at home here,” said Justin Cobbs.
Before heading to Japan, the American guard spent three seasons with Montenegrin club Buducnost. Additionally, in the 2018/2019 season, he played for Cedevita, so the regional competition environment is not new to him.
