Jusuf Nurkic, a basketball player from Bosnia and Herzegovina, etched his name into Phoenix Suns history in the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Despite his team’s 118-110 loss, Nurkic finished the game with 14 points and an impressive 31 rebounds. Nurkic’s 31 rebounds set a new record for most rebounds by a player in the history of the Suns franchise, also establishing a season-high record in the NBA. Previously, Tyson Chandler and Paul Silas held the franchise record with 27 rebounds each.
“Really, it’s not that important. It’s great, but we lost the game,” Nurkic said.
The NBA had been waiting for such a rebounding performance since 2010 when Kevin Love had 31 rebounds.
The NBA record holder in this category is Wilt Chamberlain with 55 rebounds in a game against the Boston Celtics in 1960.
