Kazys Maksvytis, the coach of the Lithuanian national team, has announced the list of 12 players who will compete in the Olympic Games qualifying tournament.
The list includes: Rokas Jokubaitis, Lukas Lekavicius, Tomas Dimsa, Deividas Sirvydis, Marius Grigonis, Arnas Butkevicius, Edgaras Ulanovas, Mindaugas Kuzminskas, Tadas Sedekerskis, Domantas Sabonis, Donatas Motiejunas, and Azuolas Tubelis.
On the previous list, there were 16 players, and the ones who have been omitted are Motiejus Krivaitis, Vaidas Kariniauskas, Rokas Giedraitis, and Eimantas Bendzius.
Maksvytis explained why Rokas Giedraitis was omitted from the list, despite recently extending his contract with Crvena Zvezda.
“The small forward position is crowded, with Ulanovas, Butkevicius, Sirvydis, and Grigonis capable of playing there. It wasn’t an easy decision, but we made it.”
Lithuania will aim to secure a spot in Paris through the qualifying tournament in Puerto Rico. They are in a group with Ivory Coast and Mexico, while Italy, Puerto Rico, and Bahrain are on the other side. Only the winner of this tournament will travel to Paris.
If successful, they will face Serbia, the USA, and South Sudan at the Olympic Games.
