Kendrick Perkins, former player and current NBA analyst at ESPN, spoke about the potential retirement of LeBron James.
The Los Angeles Lakers are going through a turbulent period. For the second year in a row, they were easily defeated by the Denver Nuggets in the playoffs, and immediately after that, head coach Darvin Ham was fired. There are also some rumors about LeBron James‘ potential retirement, but the chances of that happening are still slim.
“I hate to say this but I believe it in my soul. I wish LeBron James would retire. Not because I don’t want to see more of LeBron James or appreciate him. But I honestly believe the more LeBron James continues to play the game of basketball, the more it’s going to hurt his legacy and the more it’s going to continue to hurt his GOAT argument.
As long as he steps onto that floor every season, there’s going to be an expectation on him of winning a championship. when he doesn’t do that, we’re going to look at him and go, ‘What happened now?’”said Kendrick Perkins, who is otherwise a big fan of LeBron James.
LeBron James averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists in his 21st season in the league. Last season, James broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record and became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
