Kenny Atkinson is the new head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, as confirmed by the Ohio-based club on their social media.
The American has thus become the 24th coach in the history of the team, replacing J. B. Bickerstaff, who led the team for the past two seasons.
He spent the last three years with the Golden State Warriors, winning an NBA title with them in the 2021/2022 season. He will also be part of the coaching staff for the French national team, the host of this year’s Olympic Games.
Upon arriving in Ohio, he stated the following:
“I am thrilled and honored to be named the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. This is an incredible opportunity to lead an already talented young group of players with a bright future. I am excited to now be in a position to help this team continue progressing. I also want to thank Koby Altman and the front office for their trust in me and the shared vision we have,” Kenny Atkinson said.
The Cleveland Cavaliers made it to the second round of the playoffs this season. Firstly they got the better of the Orlando Magic. But the eventual champions Boston Celtics defeated them soundly in five games in the second round.
