Phoenix Suns’ basketball players Kevin Durant and Devin Booker have announced that they will play for the United States national team at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
During the Phoenix Suns’ Media day, both Durant and Booker were asked if they would play in the upcoming Olympic Games next summer. “I will play in the Games,” said Durant, while Booker responded briefly with “I will do it.”
Durant has already won both the World Championship and the Olympic Games. He made his debut with the national team at the World Championship in 2010 and won the MVP award at just 21 years old. He has been a part of teams that won gold medals at the Olympic Games in 2012, 2016, and 2021, with Booker joining him in the last term.
Interest in participating in the Olympic Games has also been expressed by Golden State Warriors’ basketball player, Steph Curry. An Olympic gold medal is one of the few accolades missing from the vitrines of the NBA veteran.
As he stated on the Golden State Warriors’ Media day: “I want to play. It’s the one thing I haven’t done… I definitely want to be there. I want to be a part of the team.”
After the conclusion of the FIBA World Cup in 2023 and the second consecutive finish without a medal for the fourth-placed United States team, several NBA superstars discussed their plans to join the national team next summer. Although the USA did not win a medal in the last two World Cups, they have been gold medalists at every Olympic Games since 2008.
