Lassi Tuovi, head coach of Finland, spoke after the game in which his team opened the FIBA World Cup.
Tuovi was not too displeased, despite his team being easily beaten by Australia. It seemed that it wouldn’t be like that in the first half – for the most part his team were the better opponent, but before going to the big break Patty Mills raised the level of the game. After that, everything was easy for Australia.
“Congratulations to Australia. They showed the spirit that makes them the favourites. We can be proud of how we challenged them. They took the lead at the end of the second quarter and it was difficult after that. The tournament is long. This is a journey. We will learn and we will bounce back.” – Lassi Tuovi said after the game.
Finland now faces a duel against Japan. In that match, they have to do their best in order to win. Otherwise, the second stage is hardly something that is considered realistic. In addition to Finland, Australia and Japan, Germany is also in the same group. The duel between that selection and the Japanese is on the program today from 14:00.
