Legia Warsaw defeated Fribourg Olympic with a score of 70-59, securing their spot in the semifinals of the FIBA Champions League qualifiers.
It took a bit of time for Wojcieh Kaminski’s team to find their rhythm. The Swiss representative had a slightly better start, but the players of the Polish giants regrouped and ended the first quarter with a 5-point lead.
The second quarter proved to be decisive. During this phase of the game, they built a stable lead that fluctuated between 9 and 13 points, a gap the Swiss couldn’t bridge. Legia went into halftime with a comfortable lead, leading 39-30.
A similar scenario unfolded after the halftime break, with Fribourg having a chance to close the gap in the score. However, the Warsaw team had different plans. They orchestrated a 7-2 run that reestablished control and brought this quarter to a calm conclusion with a nine-point lead intact.
An incredible resemblance occurred in the final quarter. Fribourg did manage to reduce the deficit to four points, but Legia hit two crucial three-pointers. They calmly closed out the game and deservedly triumphed with a final score of 70-59.
The standout performer for the Polish team was Aric Holman, who contributed 14 points, followed by Michal Kolenda with 11 points. Roberto Kovac shone for the defeated side, also scoring 14 points. Legia now awaits Mornar or Obradoiro in the semifinals.
