LNB Pro A could face a serious financial blow due to the problems encountered by Skweek (the holder of TV rights).
As a reminder, Skweek had committed through a contract to broadcast the domestic championship until 2030 (in addition to being a partner of the EuroLeague). However, at present, the company owes several million euros for production costs, raising significant questions about how it will function in the near future.
According to Le Parisien, LNB Pro A was supposed to receive 2.5 million euros per season from L’Equipe and Skweek over the next seven years, but this partnership is likely to be terminated at the end of the current season.
“The situation is concerning, but not catastrophic. Unlike other sports, the balance of our league and clubs does not depend as much on television rights. We are sorry if it turns out that such issues will have consequences for our sport,” said Philippe Ausseur, the league’s top official.
Representatives of L’Equipe claim that they do not want to stop broadcasting matches but also mention that the project may not be financially sustainable in the future due to high costs, especially in production.
It is expected that a series of meetings will be held in the coming days to find the best solutions for Skweek to “survive” at least until the end of the current contract.
