The Los Angeles Lakers are gearing up for another offseason of star hunting, but securing seasoned veterans at a reasonable value will also be a vital focus.
Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report mentioned on May 31 that point guard Kyle Lowry is likely on the Lakers’ radar.
“While he may be more effective coming off the bench, Lowry remains one of the league’s top older veterans. The Sixers might re-sign him, either on a minimum deal or using part of their RMLE,” Pincus noted. “However, he’s expected to receive minimum offers from the Clippers, Lakers, and Suns.”
The Lakers’ interest in the 38-year-old Lowry isn’t new. It dates back to the 2020-21 season.
Los Angeles was among several teams negotiating with the Toronto Raptors, Lowry’s team at the time, before that year’s trade deadline. Though the Lakers had the necessary salaries to complete the trade, they decided against including Talen Horton-Tucker in the deal, which caused negotiations to fall through.
Jovan Buha and Bill Oram of The Athletic provided a detailed account in a March 2021 article about why the trade fell apart.
