Tyronn Lue is one of the most respected NBA coaches at the moment, and as he himself admitted, he has a stormy playing career behind him.
Lue is currently the coach of the Los Angeles Clippers since 2020, and previously led the Cavaliers (2015-18), with whom he won the championship title. He forged his fame as an NBA player for 11 seasons, in which he averaged 8 .5 points and 3.1 assists in an average of 22.7 minutes.
But off the court there is another stat in his life that is even more surprising and somewhat reprehensible that has now been revealed by Lue himself and dates back to his time with the Lakers.
As soon as he landed in Los Angeles, he and the other newcomers in the team were “sponsored” by the then player Eddie Jones, who played for the Lakers from 1994. to 1999., and showed them the party side of the largest city on the west coast of the United States.
“Eddie Jones took us up under his wing… We went out 27 nights in a row. That right there just changed who I was as a person. Never drank, never smoked but it just opened my eyes to a lot of different things and it was crazy.
You know, a lot of people can’t play in LA because it opens your eyes to a whole other lifestyle. Living in Los Angeles comes with many challenges. Besides the ridiculous traffic, insane taxes, and distracting party opportunities, being a part of the franchise means living at a higher standard than your peers.” – Lue said in a recent chat on “All the Smoke” podcast.
