Luka Doncic provided an interesting answer when asked about the upcoming NBA Finals, where the Dallas Mavericks will make their first appearance in 13 years.
Back then, the Texas franchise, led by Dirk Nowitzki, secured the title against the Miami Heat’s “Big Three” (LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh), surprising many. Now, they will compete against the Boston Celtics for the trophy and, just like 13 years ago, they are considered underdogs by global bookmakers.
When asked about the previous final, Luka Doncic gave a brutally honest response, subtly reminding everyone that he is only 25 years old:
“I didn’t watch them, in Europe, it’s four in the morning. I had to go to school the next day,” the Dallas Mavericks superstar said, making everyone present laugh, before continuing:
“It wasn’t easy to get here. It was a tough journey. There’s still work to do; we need to win four more games. We are a great team, but more importantly, we have great guys on the team, from players to coaches. We stick together, play basketball, and have managed to beat some very good teams along the way. Now we face the best team in the league, which had the best record in the regular season. We need to play great basketball to beat them.”
Heading into the NBA Finals, Luka Doncic leads the league in seven different statistical categories. Besides him, Kyrie Irving is also in great form. It will be very interesting to see the matchup between Irving and the Boston Celtics, with whom he parted on bad terms. Similarly, Kristaps Porzingis, who previously played for the Dallas Mavericks, will now be fighting for the NBA title as a member of the “Celts” against his former team.
