Reportedly, Maccabi Tel Aviv has informed players that it is prepared to activate the force majeure clause, which exists in the EuroLeague’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (EFA). This clause can only be activated in cases where contractual obligations cannot be fulfilled due to reasons beyond the club’s control, such as a pandemic, government-imposed measures, or war.
Given that the move to the “Aleksandar Nikolic” arena was strictly for safety reasons, Maccabi Tel Aviv has the option to reduce players’ gross salaries by 1 percent for each home game. At this moment, the “Pride of Israel” has 12 more home games left in the regular season, and it’s not known how many of them will experience a salary reduction.
