New Milan basketball player Maodo Lo described why he decided to seek employment outside of Germany for the first time in his career.
Lo signed with the Italian team this summer after seasons with Bamberg, Bayern and Alba. He has had a successful career, including winning gold at the FIBA World Cup.
“I played for all three German clubs in the EuroLeague, which was productive for my journey. I progressed and grew as a player. The ambition was to step up to a higher level with a different team in another country. I knew that Milan had shown interest in me before. When Ettore Messina called, I didn’t hesitate” – Lo said.
The German international also mentioned who he talked to in Milan.
“Logically, it was Nicolo Melli. I played with him in Bamberg, and Johannes Voigtmann, with whom I’ve been playing for a long time in the national team. They are great people. They will help me adapt to the team, the city. Also, they will be very important on the court. Their basketball knowledge is so vast that it’s easy to play with them” – Lo noted.
Milan opens the new EuroLeague season on October 6 with an away game against Fenerbahce. The Italian team was the biggest disappointment in the last season, failing to make the playoffs despite high expectations, partly due to numerous injuries.
