Marco Belinelli, the experienced shooter from Virtus, received the award for the most valuable player of the Serie A season 2023/2024.
The thirty-eight-year-old guard received the most votes (14.7%) from clubs, managers, coaches, players, media, and fans. Rayjon Tucker from Venezia came in second (11.4%), averaging 14.7 points with a 14.5 efficiency index. Third was Belinelli’s teammate, Tornike Shengelia, with 13.8 points and an efficiency index of 15.8.
What’s “strange” statistically is that Marco Belinelli ranks only 50th in the league in terms of average efficiency index, considering his performance.
The experienced Italian helped Virtus secure the top spot in the regular season with 22 wins and 8 losses. In the EuroLeague, Belinelli averaged 14.1 points per game.
In the quarterfinal playoff series, Virtus faces Tortona, leading 2-0 after two games played.
