Porter, the host of the podcast where the two teammates discussed the Serbian center, emphasizes that Nikola Jokic is the best basketball player he has ever seen.
“He’s incredible. A few days ago, I saw some ranking of the best NBA players, and the Joker is literally in a separate category. I think it’s the first time he’s getting the respect he deserves. That guy is unique. Maybe his appearance and performances don’t match, but when you watch him from game to game, you realize he’s the best basketball player you’ve ever seen in your life. The way he passes—the things he’s capable of doing are insane.”
The forward from Missouri reminisced about the early stages of his career with the Nuggets and his collaboration with the Serbian.
“In the early stages of my career with the Nuggets, he wasn’t as dedicated, didn’t care as much. But he started growing every season—even when he won the MVP award. How do you get better after winning the MVP award?! He managed that too. Then he took the second consecutive MVP award and continued to improve.”
Jokic’s vacation in his homeland left a special impression on Porter.
“We won the title, and he went back to Serbia. After that, he told me he was drinking six beers a day. Probably didn’t even touch the ball—and then he plays like this. How can you be better this year than last?!” Porter wondered.
