Mike James is very close to continue his career in Olympiacos. The player and the Greek champions have reportedly agreed on a two-year collaboration.
The arrival of Kemba Walker to Monaco did not sit well with the American guard, who was looking out for his interests for the next level of his career. At the age of 33, what he desires is a team that can compete for the EuroLeague title. Olympiacos fits perfectly into that story. The relationship between James and Sasa Obradovic isn’t ideal, that’s been know for a while. That’s an additional reason why he wants to leave Monaco.
By reporting to sportime.gr, Isaiah Canaan and Thomas Walkup approached James, aware that joining Olympiacos after playing for Panathinaikos is not easy. James had also been in contact with coach Georgios Bartzokas, and the discussions were positive. Furthermore, James had recently changed his playing style. He earns €2.5 million annually in Monaco, and Olympiacos was willing to cover most of that, around €2.3 million. However, the issue was his recent contract renewal with Monaco.
In the meantime, Monaco is trying to acquire another guard. One of their targets is Cory Higgins. Their current roster includes James, Elie Okobo, Jordan Lloyd, and Kemba Walker. James is now waiting for the Angelopoulos brothers to negotiate with Monaco and reportedly, he himself is willing to pay the required amount to play for Olympiacos.
