Milano convincingly defeated Virtus on their home court by 85:73, winning the Serie A title with a 3-1 win in the finals.
The key game of this final turned out to be Game 1, when Ettore Messina’s team triumphed after overtime in Bologna, led by the brilliant Shavon Shields.
The opening 10 minutes did not suggest that the winner would be decided by halftime, as the first quarter was evenly contested.
However, from the start of the second quarter, Ettore Messina’s team began to dominate, primarily on defense, while on the other end of the court, Nikola Mirotic was scoring from all positions and quickly reached 20 points.
After the home team gained a double-digit lead, Luca Banchi’s team was in serious disarray, which did not change in the later stages of the games.
Powered by Mirotic, Milano dictated the tempo, and then Shavon Shields scored his first points, pushing the lead to over 20. It was already clear at that point that Virtus would have a hard time coming back. Although the visitors managed to somewhat regroup, it ultimately wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.
In this way, Milano convincingly secured the championship trophy, with the most significant contributions coming from Nikola Mirotic with 30 points and 12 rebounds, and Nicolo Melli with 12 points. The rival team was led by Isaia Cordinier, who scored 21 points. Iffe Lundberg and Achille Polonara both played a good game, each scoring 12 points.
This is Milano’s 31st Serie A title, and it’s also their third consecutive championship.
