Milano suffered another defeat in Serie A, their fourth of the season. This time, Pistoia emerged victorious in the “fashion city,” securing a win by 86:81.
After a convincing win against Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade in the 10th round of the EuroLeague, Ettore Messina’s team faced another tough challenge and suffered a setback against a team from the lower ranks of the Italian league.
A significant handicap for Armani in this match was the absence of Nikola Mirotic.
At the start of the match, it couldn’t be predicted that Armani would encounter difficulties in overcoming Pistoia, as the hosts secured the first quarter with a score of 28-19.
The second quarter also remained in the home team’s favor. Shavon Shields took on the leadership role in this game, guiding his team to a +14 lead at halftime (53-39).
However, after the break, Milano experienced their worst quarter of the season. The visitors played much more decisively in defense, while excelling from all positions on the other end. Payton Willis and Charlie Moore posed an unsolvable puzzle for Armani’s guards, and the guests won the quarter 29-10.
Despite Messina’s shocked players not managing to erase the five-point deficit in the final period, they did come close at one point, tying the game at 74-74. In the last minute, they had a chance to narrow the gap to just three points, but Shields lost the ball.
The pivotal figure in the last quarter was Moore, who finished with 28 points and six assists, with Willis being the only one more effective, scoring 31 points.
Milano was led by the overwhelmingly inspired Shavon Shields with 26 points, while Ismael Kamagate and Maodo Lo each contributed 12 points.
