Monaco and Asvel clashed in a French derby in the seventh round of the EuroLeague, with Sasa Obradovic’s team securing a win by 80-70.
Monaco notched their fifth win of the season in the EuroLeague in front of their home crowd. The guests led after the first quarter, but Monaco’s improved performance turned the tide. Asvel gained the advantage after the third quarter. However, individual quality came to the forefront, and Monaco staged a comeback, securing the win.
Alpha Diallo was the standout performer for the victorious team with 21 points, while Elie Okobo contributed 16, and Mike James added 15 points. In the visiting team, which remained at one triumph, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot scored 18, while Mike Scott and Joffrey Lauvergne each contributed 11 points.
After an evenly matched first part of the opening quarter, the guests gained a significant advantage towards the end. Led by Luwawu-Cabarrot, who scored 10 points, along with contributions from Nando De Colo and Charles Kahudi, they took the lead 23-12. The first ten minutes concluded with a score of 23-14.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Kemba Walker entered the game, and Monaco changed their defense, yielding positive results. The deficit was quickly reduced to 25-20. Elie Okobo stepped up in the continuation, reaching 13 points, and Monaco took the lead 39-34 after a 15-2 run by the home team. Alpha Diallo also played a crucial role, hitting two consecutive three-pointers. The home team headed into halftime with a 41-37 advantage.
In the second half, specifically in the third quarter, Monaco maintained a lead of five to six points. This continued until the end when the visitors from Villeurbanne staged a comeback, taking a lead of 61-57 heading into the decisive 10 minutes.
In the final quarter, Monaco managed to turn the game around. When Alpha Diallo scored with a minute and a half remaining, bringing the score to 75-68, it was clear that it would be another win for Monaco.
