Brothers Markieff and Marcus Morris talked about an incident that happened the year before last between the Denver Nuggets and the Miami Heat.
Markieff Morris, playing for the team from Florida, at one point made a strong foul, and the target of his elbow was Nikola Jokic.
It was a very awkward shot to the ribs of the Nuggets center. Morris then turned his back, after which Jokic knocked him to the floor. There was a general commotion.
Both players were fined and Markieff missed a good part of the season due to the injury he sustained on that occasion. On the All That Smoke podcast, he revealed that the club advised him to take a little longer rest, which was not due to the hit.
“I fouled him, and he made a ‘dirty’ shot, which was a bit stronger and I was out for a while. They tried to protect me from myself, but I was ready after two weeks. I was not hurt, or in pain,” Markieff explained.
“We are not on the street”
Marcus, his brother, followed that up.
“I was upset, especially because his back was turned. I told him he must never turn his back on that bastard.”
Markieff then further clarified why his back was turned.
“People say that I shouldn’t have turned my back on him. Are we on the street or on the basketball court? That’s my opinion: if we’re on the street, I won’t turn my back and go at you, but if we’re on the field and a foul is called, I’ll walk to the other end of the field. I fouled you and you knew I was going to do it. Then you hit me from behind and I’m guilty for that,” said Morris, who currently has no affiliation, and added that he didn’t want to hurt Jokic.
The Serbian players won his first NBA title against Miami. In the finals, the Nuggets beat the Heat 4-1, and the Denver center received the MVP award for that series.
