Nate Wolters, former player of Crvena Zvezda, spoke to “Mozzart Sport” about his stints in the red and white jersey, as well as other topics.
The popular “Flouters” decided to hang up his sneakers. He left a great impression wherever he went, and he made a mark under Dejan Radonjic. The Montenegrin coach valued him so much that he brought him to Mali Kalemegdan twice, and in his second stint in the red and white jersey, he arguably played the best basketball of his career.
“A crucial aspect of that second stint at Zvezda was that I stayed healthy throughout. That was very important, along with the immense trust. When you feel that the coach believes in you, especially as a point guard like myself, it’s a different feeling. He encouraged me and I felt he wanted me to be the one building plays, to be involved in everything.
He gave me a lot of confidence. Although I played only one more season in my career after that, he pulled me out of a mentally tough situation, and physically I wasn’t feeling well either. The fact that he tried with me is a big deal, and that’s why it was probably the most enjoyable year of my career,” said Nate Wolters.
He then chose his favourite team-mate:
Choosing a favorite teammate is a tough question because there were so many great guys. I really loved playing with Branko Lazic. That man is a born winner, and you love having such a person on your team. He’s a great defender, tough, always hitting big shots in crucial moments, he had the guts. I have enormous respect for people like him, even more so because he stayed in the same club for over ten years. He was always a leader, regardless of his role in the team.
Luka Mitrovic was also a very enjoyable teammate, I loved playing with him too. He’s a great passer, has a real feel for the game, and can find you in any situation. What I especially liked about Zvezda is that all the domestic players had more or less the same mentality, they were focused on playing basketball really well. That’s why it was easy for me to fit in with them”.
