The NBA has unveiled plans to make a triumphant return to Mexico City with a regular-season showdown featuring the Miami Heat squaring off against the Washington Wizards on November 2nd.
Scheduled early in the season, this matchup at Arena CDMX coincides with the traditional Day of the Dead festivities across the nation. The game will embrace the Day of the Dead theme, with special in-arena activations and a uniquely themed court adding to the ambiance. The announcement was met with excitement at the inaugural NBA House Mexico, a fan event held in Mexico City during Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
This game marks the NBA’s 33rd appearance in Mexico since 1992, making it the most frequent international host outside of the United States and Canada. It’s the 14th regular-season game in Mexico as part of the NBA’s Global Games series, complemented by 19 preseason matchups.
Last November’s clash in Mexico City saw the Atlanta Hawks narrowly defeat the Orlando Magic by 120:119 in front of a packed crowd of 19,986 fans. The event left a lasting impression, with Orlando’s Jalen Suggs expressing gratitude for the warm reception and embracing atmosphere.
Tickets for the highly anticipated matchup will be available for pre-registration on July 10-11, with general sales opening on July 12. Additionally, special ticket packages offering VIP experiences, hospitality, and accommodation options will be accessible online.
Raul Zarraga, Vice President and General Director of the NBA in Mexico, lauded the Day of the Dead game as a significant milestone in the NBA’s longstanding presence in Mexico, emphasizing its role in celebrating the sport’s popularity throughout Latin America.
