As the Dallas Mavericks prepare for Game 3 against the Boston Celtics, trailing 0-2, they find themselves in familiar yet challenging territory.
Throughout NBA history, overcoming a 0-2 deficit in the Finals has been a rare feat, achieved only by a select few resilient teams.
Milwaukee Bucks (2021)
In the 2021 Finals, the Phoenix Suns surged ahead 2-0 against the Milwaukee Bucks, led by Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and DeAndre Ayton. However, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s remarkable performances turned the tide. His monumental 50-point, 14-rebound display in Game 6 sealed a dramatic reversal, as the Bucks clinched the championship by winning four consecutive games.
Cleveland Cavaliers (2016)
Arguably the most storied comeback in NBA Finals history occurred in 2016 when the Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, faced the record-breaking Golden State Warriors. Despite trailing 0-2 and later 1-3, the Cavaliers rallied. Irving’s clutch performances, including his pivotal shot in Game 7, propelled them to a historic win and their first NBA title.
Miami Heat (2006)
In 2006, the Dallas Mavericks took a commanding 2-0 lead over the Miami Heat, led by Dirk Nowitzki. However, Dwyane Wade’s exceptional play, averaging 34.7 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, spearheaded the Heat’s comeback. Miami won the series in six games, denying the Mavericks their first championship.
