Nemanja Nedovic spoke to “Eurohoops” about the rivalry between Crvena Zvezda and Partizan, and he also commented on the events in Athens.
In addition to the eternal Belgrade derby as the primary topic, the Serbian international talked about the fans and gave an interesting comment on the transfer that saw Kostas Sloukas move from Olympiacos to the ranks of the Athens “Greens.”
Given that he played for Panathinaikos, he experienced the charm of the Greek derby, and duels against Partizan are also familiar to him.
“I was in Athens two years ago and played against Olympiacos. It’s an incredible experience. The tension is always high, and the atmosphere in the arena, whether it’s the OAKA arena or the Peace and Friendship Stadium, is always great. Then I went to Crvena Zvezda, and I can say that the hatred between these two teams has never been greater. That’s something that surprised me,” said Nemanja Nedovic, elaborating further:
“It’s probably because both Crvena Zvezda and Partizan have big ambitions, they’ve invested a lot of money and want to win. I think the atmosphere created among the fans sometimes gets out of control. That’s not good for the sport. Of course, it affects the players, which isn’t good, but you have to find a way to deal with such things.”
“I hope these things can be improved, but honestly, I don’t see progress. The hatred between Red Star and Partizan has never been greater, especially among the fans. At the end of the day, everyone should be aware that it’s just a sport, and there are much more important things in life.”
“Honestly, I was shocked. Kostas Sloukas was, in a way, the face of Olympiacos for me. It surprised me. I don’t know what happened behind the scenes, but as a Panathinaikos fan, it’s always good to have such a player. You need guts for something like that, especially knowing how passionate Greek fans are,” explained Nemanja Nedovic.
