Svetislav Pesic is set to be appointed as the head coach of an unnamed team from Dubai, which will simultaneously compete in the ABA League and the EuroLeague, according to the Spanish outlet Encestando.
Pesic’s appointment to Dubai’s coaching staff is part of a new basketball reality as the date for the next EuroLeague expansion approaches. Along with the aforementioned team, Paris would also be part of the elite in this expansion.
This has been a long-standing desire of the leaders in the premier European competition. The expansion to the West may also involve London in the future, but the assessment is that the necessary conditions for such an expansion won’t be met in the near future.
Pesic Back in the EuroLeague? According to Spanish sources, Dubai is set to invest $50 million into the European market and, in return, would gain the organization of the EuroLeague Final Four.
Novak Djokovic’s brother, Djordje Djokovic, is actively involved in this endeavor, lobbying for Dubai’s entry into the prestigious competition.
This opportunity would grant Pesic a chance to once again lead a team in the EuroLeague, following his previous coaching tenure with Barcelona a few seasons ago.
