Nigel Williams-Goss explained in an interview with Eurohoops why he considers the EuroLeague to be a more competitive competition than the NBA.
The American holds an opinion that isn’t necessarily popular among players who come to Europe after their NBA experience.
“I definitely think the regular season in the EuroLeague is more competitive than the NBA, and I mainly base it on the fact that the season is shorter. You don’t have 82 games; you have 34. When you reduce the number of games, each one becomes more important. If we played 82 games, for sure, not every game would be competitive, and that’s why I think this is normal,” Nigel Williams-Goss said, and added:
“It’s also worth noting that the games are shorter. We’re talking about a factor that keeps the game more competitive; shorter games give everyone a better chance. You steal a few crucial possessions, and you have a situation where you can win the game.“
He also talked about the differences between the NBA and EuroLeague organizations.
“You have to think that the NBA is a much bigger business. That league generates a lot more money, but with that, different goals appear. You have teams being built four years ahead. In Europe, that doesn’t exist; everyone wants to win right now, simply all EuroLeague clubs have the pressure to win. There’s no playing for next year; you have to win now.“
Williams-Goss joined the team he defeated with Real Madrid in last summer’s EuroLeague final.
“It was a big deal for me. I’m here to push a team that was very close to the title; they obviously have everything they need. Real Madrid is a great organization with a lot of talent, but here, I have the opportunity to have a more significant impact, and that’s why I hope to do something special. I know the fans are craving for it; I would love to be part of such a story.“
