Nikola Topic is increasingly impressing the basketball community across the pond with his performances. Due to the young point guard’s games in Mega, some media outlets project him among the top five picks in the next NBA draft.
Renowned portals are placing him in higher positions, but none have gone as far as the well-known Bleacher Report. They envision Topic as the second overall pick.
We cannot definitively say how realistic this is. Bleacher Report is not known for draft projections, but it certainly reflects the attention on Topic and his performances this year.
Everyone is already aware that the young talent led Serbia to a gold medal at the U18 EuroBasket and has now become the standout player for Mega.
Nikola Topic is averaging 18.8 points, 7 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game in the current ABA League season.
“Bleacher Report writes, ‘Topic is one of the biggest stories for the upcoming draft and increasingly looks like he belongs among the top 5 picks. He consistently troubles defenses with his dribbling, passing, scoring, and mid-range shooting,'” reads the report.
“He resembles Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in terms of playmaking and skills, speed change, explosiveness, and basketball IQ. He has excellent court vision and reads defenses well in pick-and-roll situations. NBA teams will likely begin to overlook certain limitations in terms of athleticism and defense, especially if he continues to deliver such performances on offense and improves his shooting percentages,” the article states about the 18-year-old point guard.
