Pablo Laso spoke at the press conference after Bayern’s loss against Panathinaikos in the 34th round of the EuroLeague.
The Spanish coach expressed satisfaction with his team’s comeback in the game after a poor first half.
“Congratulations to Monaco on the win, they were simply better than us in the first half. They played aggressively, and we made too many mistakes and missed too many open shots. That made a big difference at halftime. In the second half, we started playing better defense, hitting shots, and that brought us back into the game.
In the end, we didn’t make some good decisions, and that cost us the win. Congratulations to Monaco, and I wish them all the best in the rest of the competition. I’m proud of my players for coming back into the game despite the big deficit.”
Pablo Laso also commented on Sylvain Francisco’s performance, who ended the game with 17 points.
“Francisco is a player who has had both good and bad games. He’s someone who can play both well and poorly, as we saw today. He still has to learn to become a better player than he is now.”
Bayern is now shifting focus to their commitments in the national championship, where they will undoubtedly aim for the title.
“We need to change our mindset and focus on the Bundesliga, where we are trying to maintain the top spot in the table. It will be a demanding playoff, the title is far away, and we need to show character like we did today, along with good gameplay. Surely, we will have our chances.”
Laso remains of the opinion that Real Madrid is the main favorite to win the EuroLeague.
“The EuroLeague is very tough; you play against great teams… In the playoffs, you face teams like Fenerbahce, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, Barcelona, Anadolu Efes… Great teams, great players, it’s difficult to win the trophy. I think Real Madrid remains the favorite in that race as the first seed, they have a great team, but they face a tough task. You first have to go through the playoffs, it’s not easy to say who the favorite is when you put it that way. Many teams have a chance.”
