Bayern Munich’s coach, Pablo Laso, talked about Kostas Sloukas’ transfer from Olympiacos to Panathinaikos.
Pablo Laso emphasized that he understands Sloukas’ decision, which caused quite a stir in Greece this summer.
“How can I not understand him? He stayed in his hometown, with the fans who support him. We saw that when he played against Panathinaikos in the ‘Pavlos Giannakopoulos’ tournament. I completely understand Kostas. He made a difficult decision, but it’s for the best. It’s a very risky signing. It’s never easy to make life decisions. In the end, it’s also about courage,” Pablo Laso said to Basketnews.
Laso on the upcoming clash
The Basque coach noted that he didn’t expect such a move from Panathinaikos’ new point guard.
“His transfer probably surprised me the most. There were several good moves during the summer, but if I had to single out one, it would be Kostas’ signing. That speaks volumes about the club’s ambitions, as if they want to be at the highest level,” Laso said.
One of the best European guards in the last 15 years won’t be able to help Panathinaikos in the next clash against Bayern.
“They were very active in the market. It’s not just Sloukas; it’s also Juancho Hernangomez, Jerian Grant, Kyle Guy, Mathias Lessort… We’re talking about top players and a top team with a fantastic atmosphere. Both teams are going through a transition and have new individuals. It will be our first away game, and I expect a tough task.
Coach Ergin Ataman brings them a lot of experience. We often met when we were at Real Madrid and Efes. He has joined an excellent organization. In the EuroLeague, you can lose to any team because you’re facing the best. Also, you can win in every match,” Laso stated.
Panathinaikos hosts Bayern on Thursday at 8:15 PM.
