Spanish expert Pablo Laso is the new coach of Baskonia, the team from Vitoria officially confirmed on social media.
Laso initially left Bayern completely unexpectedly for family reasons, as stated, only to be officially made official in his new position.
“Pablo’s personal decision surprised us, but we respect him a lot as a coach and as a person and we would like to thank him for everything he did, for how committed he was last season. We wish him all the best in the future, he will always be a part of us, not only because of the double crown”, stated sports director Marko Pesic.
In this way, the former coach of Real Madrid returns to his hometown, where, according to the new contract, he will spend the next three seasons.
Laso played for Baskonia in the period from 1984 to 1995 and during that time he won the Copa del Rey, where he was named MVP in 1995.
He also won two EuroLeagues with Real Madrid in 2015 and 2018, and with Bayern he had no success in the elite competition, as he finished last season with a 13-21 record. The impression was repaired with two titles, as Laso left behind the German Cup and Bundesliga trophies.
